Traditional Culture Activities – Hands on Japan

A two-week Japanese Language and Traditional Course includes at least 6 activities. Traditional Crafts are facing a difficult time all around the world. This is particularly true for rural Japan, sadly. By learning about these traditional arts from local experts, we can help keep these traditions alive.

Additional activities are also provided at extra cost.

Activities include:

* Making mini-tatami mats

* Japanese cooking

* Calligraphy

* Origami

* Haiku

* Yukata dressing

* Making Japanese toys such as “Otedama”

* Chigiri-e – using Japanese “washi” paper to make art

* Tea ceremony

* Trying on hand-made samurai armour replicas

* Nature viewing hikes with a wildlife expert

We also include sightseeing to some famous local spots including temples and scenic spots.
