Richard Pearce, Japan.
Richard has been based in the San-in region of Japan for over 14 years. His love for the region and experience in the tourism industry means he is the leading expert for inbound tourism in the San-in. A cycling tour that Richard designed and led was recognized in 2015 by National Geographic when it was voted one of National Geographic’s 50 Tours of a Lifetime.
In 2018, InsideJapan’s tour Rural Japan Explorer which Richard designed and led has been shortlisted for a national award. Richard has worked as a Senior Tour Leader for InsideJapan Tours, KE Adventures and Explore!. Richard’s own company, Bushido Adventure Travel Ltd, operates successful and popular tours in Japan, Bhutan and the United Kingdom. Richard has been working in Bhutan since 2016 and has developed special relationships with organizations across the country. Richard is considered a leading expert of Bhutanese culture and wildlife.
As a practitioner of Shugendo (a form of Japanese mountain asceticism), Richard is a leading expert and regular guide at the important Shugendo sites of Mitokusan and Mt. Daisen. Richard is a new tour and inbound tourism advisor for organizations across Japan. He also provides film production services for international wildlife and nature television companies. Prior to Japan, Richard worked as a Safari Guide and Forest Researcher in Eastern and Southern Africa.
